FAQ’s
We’ve tried to answer some key questions below, but if your particular question doesn’t feature, please email us at <support@wordia.com> and we’ll be happy to help.
How do I upload a video?
First, make a video, using any video recording device (web cam, mobile / cell phone, video camera). Once you have the video file, you will need to “upload” it to wordia.
Because wordia.com works with YouTube, you will need to be a member of YouTube in order to upload your video.
If you do not already have a YouTube account, wordia.com will direct you to the YouTube registration page, so that you can sign up. You will then be directed back to wordia.com to upload your video. It’s as simple as that.
We’ll only ask you for your YouTube account details once, so you won’t have to go back and forth between the two sites.
Don’t forget to read YouTube’s Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy when you register. We promise to keep all your details private – we won’t share them with anyone, ever.
Do I need a YouTube account to use or register with wordia.com?
No. You only need a YouTube account if you want to upload a video to wordia.com. You can use wordia.com (for example to look up a definition and view other user’s videos, or to rate a video) without a YouTube account.
Why do you use YouTube to host my video?
Because they are very good at it! YouTube allow you to upload any video file format and you can be confident that your video will be ‘live’ in minutes – and of great quality. Plus your video will be searchable within the largest online video repository in the world!
What file formats can I upload?
Because we use YouTube, that means you can upload any file formats that you like.
I love words/wordia.com and want to help promote it. How can I get involved?
Fantastic - that’s great! Send us an email to <production@wordia.com> and we’ll discuss how we can promote wordia.com together.
Is wordia.com moderated?
We want to create a safe, moderated environment - a fun destination where you can discover what words mean and what they mean to people.
Like YouTube, we have a no-nonsense approach to dealing with abusive behaviour and we ask our community to be vigilant and ‘report to moderator’ any content or comments that aren’t within our Community Guidelines >link<.
We also ‘watch-list’ (moderate) potentially sensitive words and their interpretations. We are busy setting up a community moderation programme where the wordia.com community gets to decide whether or not to remove videos that have been reported to moderator as inappropriate.
Just how big is your dictionary and thesaurus resource?
It’s big, high quality and current. Our dictionary has 76,000 “headwords” (word listings) and 120,000 definitions, and our thesaurus has 21,000 headwords. So it’s already pretty comprehensive!
And as we allow you to add your own made up words (neologisms), we’re growing daily.
Can I add my own made-up words to your resource?
Absolutely. If a word is important to you, please define what it means to you on video and upload it, adding your new word to our dictionary. This feature is coming shortly.
Can my school/community/organisation use it?
Yes. We’ve designed wordia.com so that schools, communities and organisations can get involved and define the words that matter to them as a group. This feature will be coming soon, so keep checking back.
Can anyone view my video?
Yes, all videos are for public viewing. As we use YouTube to host our video, your video will be searchable within YouTube as well as wordia.com.
Can I embed a video on my blog?
Yes, please do! If you like a particular word and its interpretation, then please upload it. This feature will be coming soon.
